Contributions Clowning: Maundy Thursday foot washing There are such powerful images that can be drawn from John 13's telling of Jesus washing the disciples' feet and sharing with them the greatest commandment that they "Love One Another." This silent clowning drama (except for text read from voice out of site), gives high impact to this great act of servanthood. Can/should be used in the context of Maundy Thursday worship in place of the Gospel reading. Monologue for Joseph A monologue of Joseph's thoughts upon hearing of Mary's pregnancy. Can be shared with a study group or a worship service. Some topics and questions are provided at the end for group discussion or focus points for a sermon.Based on the text from Mark 1:18-25 First Person Passion Narratives - St. Mark Four first person stories/narratives according to St. Mark. Characters include: Woman who anointed Jesus, Peter, Pilate & Centurion The Passion Story from the Gospel of Mark Narrator: It was two days before the celebration of the Feast of the Passover in the city of Jerusalem. Jesus had been in the city with his disciples for some time. He openly spoke about the fact that he would have to suffer and die to save people from their sins. He also challenged the religious authorities by condemning their self-righteous attitudes. So the Chief Priest and religious leaders met to form a plan. The Passion Story According to St. Matthew NARRATOR: The mood of the people in the city of Jerusalem was one of celebration and excitement. It was the week of the Feast of the Passover, a Holy day that reminded all of Israel of the time when God saved them from slavery in Egypt. The Passion Narrative of St. Luke NARRATOR: It was a time of celebration in the city of Jerusalem. Thousands of pilgrims from across the world were gathering for the annual Feast of the Passover. This great feast remembered how God saved the people of Israel from slavery in Egypt. It was a time to remember how God's promise to be with his people always was alive and well. Martin Luther Skits and Games These 5 skits have as their goal to introduce people to Martin Luther and his teachings. I have also attached the worship bulletin we used for the series so folks can see the order in which they were presented. We also used a game called “LutherMania” during each service after the presentation which requires PowerPoint and a projector. We used the sermon time on Ash Wednesday to introduce the theme of worship and the skits to the congregation. Skits are in .Zip files.
Transfiguration Chancel Drama This program followed a two-week Bible study in Sunday School on the scripture lessons for Transfiguration Sunday. We looked up all the cross references and discussed the background of the text. We made lists and discussed "mountain top" experiences in the lives of young people. Six youth served as readers and eight youth acted out the gospel lesson. Holy Moses and the 10 Commandments We have a man in our congregation who loves acting, so I wrote scripts for him to portray Moses discussing the 10 Commandments for our 2003 Lenten series. For fun, we called it Holy Moses. We followed each monologue with a short sermon that elaborated on the two Commandments being discussed, including gems from Luther’s Large Catechism. Character Presentation of Roman Centurion This presentation is based on the account found in the Gospel of Luke. Some have said that the Roman centurion became a Christian later in life. We don't know. Some say that he called Jesus the Son of God at the foot of the cross. |
