Acolyte Installation
This is a service that recognizes the ministry of the acolyte and installs new acolytes into this service ministry. It takes place during a regular worship setting. As the new persons come forward they are to be given a candle. The 'currently serving' acolytes will light the candles before the closing prayer. Candles can then be extinguished and the acolytes return to their seats.

Sometimes we forget that being an acolyte is another way that we serve God. All too often, our younger members see acolyte duties as nothing more than another exercise they have to complete or just another box to check off. In short, it becomes something they have to do as opposed to something they want to do. This service is a great reminder of how integral and important the acolyte is to the worship service and recognizes the value of this ministry. The liturgy also serves as a reminder to the entire congregation of the variety of tasks that are part of this particular call to service.
The service makes great use of light as a primary theme throughout and uses multiple examples in both scripture and prayer. Also by showing that these young people not only practice obedience to God in their service, but that they are also considered a worship leader as well shows that their contribution to the life of the congregation is valuable indeed and should result in an enhancement of the rapport shared by the entire worship team.
