Identifier: 12293555484 Youth Bible Study on James This study was created for my Gen to Rev class in January of 2008. The study focuses on taming the tongue and helps youth to think about the power of their words and actions. Youth Bible Study of James Author: This work is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 3.0 License Reviews Reviews count: 4 - Average rating: 4.25 This is a bible study that would not be appropriate for very many groups. And for those for whom it is, you would want to have adequate preparations and resources on hand (particularly as themes of bullying, depression, suicide, and other issues emerge from the included song video). Leaders who use this should do so with caution, and ensure that they know their group well and have previewed all of the material in advance. Mary Hess | 2 Jan 2009 I really enjoyed going through the bible study. I have not had any experience working with youth at this age, but I do remember being in Jr. High and High School. This was a very hard time for almost everyone at different point. I think it is very useful for youth groups to use as way to look at what we say and do and how that might affect others either positively or negatively. The introduction song fit perfectly with the overall theme and definitely got my attention. I watched two different videos on You Tube and I was amazed. Different groups of student put music videos together to this song. By using the appropriate video for your group the students will be able to relate very well to the video or challenge some people’s view of the norm. I enjoyed how the questions progressively got more difficult. The first question focused on what struck you about the video. Then there were questions about the bible verses, and finally, the questions about us. They really got deeper and deeper as the bible study when on. I also really like how the bible study was prepared for multiple learning styles. In the song you could use multiple senses with the video. I was able to read the lyrics, listen to the lyrics or watch the video. After the video there was a place where you read the bible and filled in the blank, discussed with the rest of the class as well as a time for personal reflection. One limitation that this might have is that it might not be the safest place for the group to talk. In almost all groups like the youth group there will be people that fall into the category of needing a positive word or action and those that need to give a positive word or action. To clarify, one of the students might not want to talk about a time when they should of help another student, because that student is in the group. I would very hard to change anything about the bible study to counter act this limitation, so maybe it is an overall limitation of bible studies.
