“Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.”( Col 3:2) This verse seems to be at the crux of this study. What does it mean to set our lives towards that which is holy? And what does that mean will we are here on earth? At first glance of this study I appreciated the rich context provided for which this verse stemmed. Having that provided in a study is often forgotten yet necessary as a teacher.
As I reviewed this 3 part study the more I appreciated the open ended questions which would provide dialogue between all learners. These fits with Parker Palmers learning model laid out in “To know as we are known.” In which each learner contributes to the education and is thus an interracial part of the learning taking place.
While I appreciate the questions and the participation it asks of the high school students the context and individual students must also be highlighted. The demonstrative ends being asked for in this study would work best with a group of students who were familiar with themselves and have the knowledge to articulate the faith truths being asked of them. I would struggle seeing this fitting the context of unchurched youth, but would rather for a group of students familiar with the Bible and each other.
