Martin Luther Comes to Hope Lutheran
SKIT PREPARATION for Reformation Sunday. I have discovered that students know or remember very little about this period of history, and often confuse Martin Luther with Dr. Martin Luther King. Be prepared to offer an informal sketch of Luther, prodding them with questions as you do so, to help students feel that they are helping you "write" the skit.

This skit was designed for and used with Junior High youth, but it could be used with High School age youth as well. The author provides background information on how the skit was written/produced which is helpful to future users. This information includes offering ideas for having an initial discussion with the youth on the life of Martin Luther. It is also suggested that questions the youth raise regarding the life of Martin Luther be researched and then incorporated into the skit, thus making this activity a focus for multi-sessions. The opportunity to discuss, research and create also appeals to a variety of learning styles and "multiple intelligences". Alternatively, the skit can be as used in a straightforward manner and is ready for practice and presentation. Props and scenes are minimal and can be easily modified to fit a variety of performance locations. The skit is easy to read and follow and incorporates a light-heartedness into the material that will offer a nice history lesson for both performances as well as audiences.

If the user is going to use the activity by incorporating additional discussion and research on the life of Martin Luther, they may want to have reference materials handy for easy access by the youth.
