This set of prayers is a lovely resource for rural communities to use in worship or other group settings, and even as individual petitions in a personal prayer ritual.
I like the prayers because they are fairly short but eloquent and meaningful. In terms of the Wiggins and McTighe rubric, the prayers score pretty high on the various criteria. I would say, for the type of presentation the prayers are, they score In-depth, Revealing, Skilled, Thorough, Sensitive, and Circumspect. The prayers use good adjectives to describe rural life, creating good imagery. They also recognize the rural perspective on life and how it relates to other perspectives of life yet notes the importance this way of life has on the people who experience it. They travel the seasons with petitions and note the changing petitions depending on the time of year. While less applicable to rural regions without snow, the overall message is the same, and maybe with a small tweaking of language they could work in places without snow as well.
I would recommend these petitions for use in various settings because they are heartfelt and genuine and accurately reflect their source.
