A picture of a tree barren of leaves waiting for winter’s blanket of snow, a scripture passage, and an inspiring song are in of themselves interesting pieces. Combined these three elements raise the spirit, fill our heart with love and reassures us during these daunting times. Wendy accomplished this by utilizing some of the methodology and information found in Teaching the Bible in the Church by John M. Bracke and Karen B. Tye. Her use of scripture especially the opening of the Lord Prayer draws from emotional memory of the viewer. Most people have strong feeling attached to this Prayer as it is said during some very emotional charged periods of an individual’s life such as funerals, weddings, healing prayer services, and Sunday School. Another aspect that Wendy does a good job of reaching her audience with is by combining more than one learning style into her video. She uses pictures which are good for people well versed in the visual style as well as music to capture people who gravitate to the aural learning style. Finally Wendy uses imagery that helps with intercultural education. Several times in the presentation when the singer takes about how mighty her God is, a picture of a mountain in its full glory is shown. This image ties us back to the culture who was writing scripture by using images that they themselves wrote about in the Bible when they wrote about God. Wendy did an awesome job and I hope you find it as interesting as I did.
