God is revealed in this lesson as our Creator and as one who loves us dearly and unconditionally. It is taught that we are claimed by God in baptism. This lesson helps students to connect a spiritual ritual with everyday life. They explore what it means to be baptized and how we can live as chosen, claimed, and baptized children of God. Children are given the opportunity to explore and experience their faith in a variety of ways, including talking, listening, singing, moving, dancing, and praying. They are given ideas about how to continue learning and discovering outside of the church. Families are included as a discussion sheet is sent home to guide in remembering the child’s baptism. This resource is helpful as it provides much flexibility and could be adapted to use with different age groups or in a different setting. It takes into account multiple intelligences and is age appropriate without watering down the significance of faith, baptism, or theology. Students are not told what to believe, but are able to experience together and explore ways to live what they know practically, in their daily lives.
