![]() Identifier: 12295810503 Heart, Soul, Mind, and Strength Young Adult Retreat This is a weekend retreat for senior high youth or young adults. It focuses on understanding how living out and using our passions can be a form of worship. It also uses the elements of heart, soul, mind, and strength and the idea that people come to God and are sustained in faith by four main ways: through thinking, emotion, service, and meditation. Although the title says high school retreat, later on it is called a confirmation retreat, so this material could be used with middle school aged youth as well if you do confirmation 7th-9th grade. The materials provided laid out an easy to follow, yet flexible schedule that either could be used as written or it would be a great base to build your own schedule. In addition to this the content of the material is also very thoughtful and useful. There are many conversation starters and questions that could help frame your own retreat that you were working on creating. Within the material there are different activities that the youth will do, whether it be a project, journaling, planning worship that will hopefully help engage all types of youth. There are different sessions that the youth will be apart of; however, it appears that it is not just the youth sitting and listening but there are many different activities that will have them interacting with one another and doing some personal reflection. There seems to be a nice balance between down time and busy time. It is nice that all the activities are included and have “hand outs” that can go with them. Whether someone wanted to follow this retreat exactly as written or use it to form and shape their own retreat, I think it is a great tool that would be very helpful for a leader to at least look through. One aspect of this retreat that I really appreciated is even though it says it is for high school youth, I think it could be used for middle school age youth. And, it is not material that has to be used at a retreat, but could be used during a few different Sunday School classes. I would have to say that if someone wanted to use this retreat for young adults, there would need to be some readjusting and perhaps some deeper questions and more time spent in conversation with one another. As a youth and young adult minister, I do not feel that my young adults would be able to get much out of this. Again, it would be a great base to jump off of and reshape it for young adults.
